Chapter 18

6 weeks later:

A massive fleet was gathered at the staging system the rescue fleet had setup when the Imperium had attacked Earth. The reason?

Another Imperium fleet was heading for Earth and Alex didn’t want to cause them to flee if they saw what was waiting for them.

Mouse and Fox reported the fleet was in movement from their hiding spot in the Morkak system. As soon as they had passed them on their way out of the system, they had tossed a few Livermorium rocks at a few of the ships. Once they tracked them to Ulike’ system, they sent word back to Wolf.

The sensor buoys in that system picked up the other two fleets and watched them join into one large fleet. They left on a heading that would take them to Earth.

So, Alex arranged a welcome party. They were getting ready to launch their invasion when the received word about the incoming fleet so they just paused at the staging system and waited for a few days.

“Captain Mizrahi, we feel that your sensor net in the Morkak system is sufficient to warn us of any major changes. I want you and Captain Fontaine to head for K1. I want a line of buoys and com centers on this side of the galaxy as well. If Admiral King calls for help, I want to hear that call in a reasonable amount of time. Any questions?” asked Alex.

“Yes sir. Are we to do any investigating, or just lay the buoys?”

“Your call Captain. My preference is to get the com channels setup as fast as possible, but if you find something that you think we need to know about…” replied Alex.

“Understood sir.”

…ping… “Alex, the fleet has dropped out of FTL.”

“Time for me to go. Our guests are here. Be safe out there.”

“You as well sir.”

Fleet Commander Yenjork was already furious. The Rakani had managed to supply the required number of ships, even providing some of their newest vessels. They were obviously still inferior to Vikno ships, but at least they tried.

The Mimtari, however, provided less than half of the ships they were ordered too. And they were barely space worthy.

And now, his sensors reported that they had lost half of those that had showed up at the staging system.

Something was happening in this system. Already one combined fleet had vanished after they came here. As his sensors scanned the system, he could find no evidence that they had ever made it here. Even the beacon that had been placed at the third planet was gone.

As a Fleet Commander, he was privy to the reports that the original battle site had been picked clean as well. Had they stumbled into a second powerful species that was recovering resources? Was that species responsible for the disappearance of the Imperium fleet?

“Fleet Commander. We are receiving a com signal. Unable to pinpoint from where.” called out the coms officer.

“On screen.” Yenjork hissed when his display lit up with a human on it.

“You are trespassing. I will give you a chance to leave before this turns ugly.
